| From the desk> Commentary On Melanoma: |
||||||||
| Commentary: I am a little late in getting this commentary out because I've been too busy with my first two jobs. Anyway, I put this topic up on the website because I believe it is a very important one. I personally have been diagnosing and seeing more melanomas in patients over the past two years in my gynecology practice. I have also been hearing about more family members of my patients with these skin cancers. I want everyone who reads the article to start doing self exams looking for suspicious lesions. Have your doctor do a careful inspection of your body at routine exams, especially any suspicious lesions you are concerned about. See a dermatologist if you believe you have a suspicious lesion. It could save your life. This form of skin cancer can be deadly. I would also like to add that if you have had a melanoma removed, please do not get lost to follow up. I have had a problem with patients being treated primarily, but not getting long-term follow up. I believe those patients need careful long-term follow up. Doc |
