| From the desk> Celebrex Only Cox-2 NSAID Left!!! |
||||||||
| Commentary: Well, we just lost another excellent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It succumbed to the FDA by voluntarily withdrawing the drug from the market. The drug company has vowed to perform more studies on the effects of Bextra and cardiovascular risks. Pfizer who makes Bextra has also vowed to get this drug back on the market. They also make Celebrex which will be the only remaining drug in this category that I can still use. Mobic is still available, but I don't know how well this drug would work in my practice. Vioxx, a Merck & Co. product was withdrawn last September because of the reported cardiovascular risks. I have personally taken all three of these NASAIDs as well as prescribed it to my patients for pelvic pain and dysmenorrhea. They all worked very well, but I believe Bextra seemed to work the best. It's just another blow to anti-inflammatory drug therapy. I feel sorry for the arthritic patients. They will suffer the most. Look out Advil, you may be next. Doc |
