Commentary On :  Professional Burnout

Commentary:

I thought this would be an interesting topic in today's fast-pace world we live in.
This article does not pertain to just doctors.  This disorder is not directly a physical
one, but the physical problems it can cause as a direct effect on one's physical
condition are serious.  Very few professionals are immune from it.  I believe most
professionals who suffer from it, don't even know they have it.  Some of you reading
this article may not be a professional, but your husband or loved one is.  You may be
able to recognize the symptoms and perhaps get involved.  As you will read in the
accompanying
article, this burnout condition can have disastrous consequences on
one's family, friends, marriage, relationships, business, job, and general health.

Some symptoms to look out for are:
Chronic fatigue - exhaustion, tiredness, a sense of being physically run down
Anger at those making demands
Self-criticism for putting up with the demands
Cynicism, negativity, and irritability
A sense of being besieged
Exploding easily at seemingly inconsequential things
Frequent headaches and gastrointestinal disturbances
Weight loss or gain
Sleeplessness and depression
Shortness of breath
Suspiciousness
Feelings of helplessness
Increased degree of risk taking
