Commentary On :  Sexual Dysfunction

Commentary:

I thought this would be a great topic to post on my website, since it is a
significant topic of interest in my practice.  I cannot begin to estimate how many times
this topic is brought up in my practice.  Of course, my practice is ever growing in
numbers with the Baby-Boomer Generation coming to me as new patients.  This is a
very important problem, and I believe touches the lives of many patients and their
significant others.  I also believe this is a very challenging problem for the
gynecologist because it is a very complex and multi-faceted problem sometimes
involving not just one person, but two people.  This commentary only begins to brush
the surface of this very complicated and common problem.  There has been a recent
concerted effort by the International Consensus Development Conference on Female
Sexual Dysfunction to develop a new diagnostic and classification system for female
sexual dysfunction.  The new classification will be helpful for gynecologists and other
health-care providers who deal with this problem.  The new classification system
incorporates the four components of female sexual dysfunction:  1.  decreased
sexual desire 2.  decreased sexual arousal 3.  dyspareunia (painful intercourse) 4.
persistent difficulty in acheiving or inability to achieve orgasm.  Please read the
article on
Female Sexual Dysfunction I've included as a link with this commentary.  I
hope you learn something about this disorder.
